Securing the Health of Your Smile

Life can take its toll on your body, and sometimes your teeth can be taxed the hardest. Stressful grinding, accidents, cavities, or other factors can transform a magnificent smile into a cavalcade of aches, pains, and worn teeth. Teeth that are damaged enough need to be fixed and dental crowns do the trick beautifully. Chesapeake Contemporary Dentistry in Baltimore can take any injured tooth and have it functioning and looking great in no time with dental crowns.

The Dental Crown Placement Process

dental crowns baltimoreNormally the placement of dental crowns requires two office appointments. During your first appointment, our dentists clean the decayed or damaged part of the tooth structure. An impression of the tooth is made and shipped to a lab, where the permanent crown is created. Meanwhile, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth to protect it until the permanent crown is ready.

Once the permanent crown has returned from the lab, we remove the temporary crown and bond the permanent crown to the tooth. Our dentists may make some slight adjustments to correct any bite irregularities and ensure the crown fits snugly.

A Variety of Materials

There are several types of crowns that provide their own benefits:

Metal Crowns

Porcelain Shell Fused to Metal Crowns

All Porcelain or Ceramic

Possible Risks

During your personal consultation, our dentists will discuss all the possible risks of having dental crowns placed. It’s important to remember that replacements may be required every 5 to 15 years.
