A Beautiful Solution to Dental Imperfections

Porcelain veneers are thin shells that slip over natural teeth; veneers can mask a variety of aesthetic imperfections, including teeth that are:

By using porcelain materials, our practice places the most realistic-looking veneers possible. The trick lies in the lucent nature of enamel, which is the exterior covering of teeth. Light travels through that exterior and reflects off the dentin sitting directly beneath the enamel, giving it a lustrous, pearly white sheen.

Porcelain veneers, offered at our Baltimore-area practice, duplicate that process by allowing light to pass through the covering and reflect off the underlying layers of the tooth, giving it the same sheen that natural teeth have. Other types of veneers are easier to pick out as being artificial since they do not replicate a natural tooth’s same interaction with light. Veneers can last from 10 to 15 years and can truly make your teeth as stunning as you are.

If you desire bright, dazzling teeth, porcelain veneers could be the right solution for you. Contact our Edgewood cosmetic dentistry office to set up a consultation today.

The Veneer Placement Procedure

porcelain veneers baltimoreBefore placing the veneers, one of our cosmetic dentists schedules a consultation with you to talk about what you can expect. We examine your teeth and gums, and address any oral health concerns before moving forward with the placement of your veneers. You will help determine what the end result will look like by defining the size, shape, and color of the veneers, with input from our team.

After the consultation, you return for two visits within a period of six weeks. On the first visit, one of our dentists prepares your teeth for the veneers by removing a small bit of enamel; local anesthetic may be administered to ease any minimal discomfort during this process. We take an impression of the teeth to make into a mold; this is then shipped to our dental lab, where your new veneers are made by a team of skilled professionals. We place temporary veneers to protect your teeth until your permanent veneers are ready to be placed.

When the porcelain veneers have been shipped back to our Baltimore area office, we remove your temporary veneers and replace them with your permanent set. Once placed, we make any necessary adjustments to ensure a snug but comfortable fit, and provide instructions for the care and maintenance of your veneers.

The Excellent Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the most effective ways to attain the smile you’ve always wanted; they mask numerous aesthetic imperfections without extensively restructuring your natural teeth. Porcelain is the most natural-looking type of veneer and stays stunning for over 10 years. After you have porcelain veneers placed, you’ll no longer have to worry about hiding your teeth or feeling self-conscious when speaking, laughing, or smiling. You’ll enjoy having an improved smile that draws people in and makes your self-confidence skyrocket.

Porcelain Veneer Risks to Consider

Though they are greatly outweighed by the numerous benefits, there are some potential risks associated with porcelain veneers. Most brands require that the natural enamel of the tooth be reduced, meaning the placement procedure is irreversible. Also, veneers eventually need to be replaced. Finally, even though the smallest amount of enamel is removed, this makes the teeth more vulnerable to trauma and can temporarily increase sensitivity after the placement procedure.

All of these potential risks may be discussed with our dentists before the treatment begins. The placement of porcelain veneers is an excellent cosmetic dentistry procedure that can provide you with a great smile you’ll love, but make sure you consider these risks before committing.
